Frequently Asked Questions

What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing (WCS/Westie), also known as Modern Swing, is a super fun addictive form of partner dance. Originating in the 1950s, West Coast Swing is characterized by its elastic, groovy, swanky vibe and dance partners play off each other's creativity and improvisation with the music. It can be danced to a large variety of music, including pop, hip-hop, blues, instrumental, urban, etc.
Which Role should I choose?
West Coast Swing has two roles, a lead and a follow. It is a degendered form of dance, so you are welcome to dance any role regardless of your gender. You can lead, follow, or do both!
I am a beginner. Can I come?
Think you have two left feet? We got you! Come join our introductory lesson before the social party. We'll help you sort out your right from your left.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever clothing you feel comfortable moving in! Potentially consider closed toe shoes just in case you get stepped on! (This is partner dancing after all)
Do I need to bring a partner?
Come by yourself or with friends! Since West Coast Swing is a social dance you are welcome to dance with everyone and there are no set partners. You will make friends regardless if you show up solo or with your entourage.
How do I get there? Is there parking?
